What does a website care and maintenance plan include?

A real website care plan includes a backup before every change, tested software and security updates, round-the-clock uptime monitoring, tracking of SSL certificate and domain expiry dates, small content edits, and a written record of everything that changed. If a plan cannot show you that record, you are paying for a promise rather than a service.

Backups before every change

Not just a nightly backup. Before any update or edit, we take a fresh copy, so any change can be rolled back in minutes. All code lives in version control, so every past version of the site is recoverable.

Uptime checks every 30 minutes

Every site we run is checked from our monitoring dashboard every 30 minutes, and every 5 minutes while it is down, with an alert by email. The dashboard is itself watched by an outside service, so a monitor failing silently does not go unnoticed.

SSL certificates and domain renewals

An expired certificate makes browsers block your site with a security warning. An expired domain can take your site and email offline. We track both expiry dates for every site and renew before they lapse.

Security updates and fixes

When a serious vulnerability is announced in software our sites use, we patch every affected site, not just the one that complained. We also audit server configuration: for example, we keep application ports bound to the server itself, because Docker can publish them to the internet past the firewall.

Small content edits

New photos, updated hours, a staff change, a price update. Small changes are included so the site never drifts out of date.

A written log and a monthly report

Every change is recorded with what changed and why, and you get a plain-English health report each month.
